                                              ***Executive Leadership Update***
Dear friends,

As many of you know, Winding Road has been through a year of meaningful—but challenging—transition. We’ve experienced a number of leadership changes, and each decision we’ve made along the way has come from deep reflection about how and when we could rebuild with intention, care, and integrity.

Most recently, our Executive Director has had to step away from the company due to serious health challenges. While this news has been difficult for all of us, our commitment to moving forward remains strong.

To help guide the company through this moment, Artistic Director Robin Bousel has taken on the additional role of Interim Executive Director. Robin brings not only vision, but also steadiness, compassion, and a deep commitment to achieving our goals—qualities that will serve us well as we continue shaping the next chapter of Winding Road.

This is not the path we expected, and the road ahead is not without obstacles. But Winding Road Theater has come this far because of the heart and tenacity of its history, the resilience of our leadership, and the belief that our work matters. This season, we are rebuilding from a place of truth, creativity, and hope. In the coming months, we’ll be keeping you in the loop as things develop, and sharing opportunities to get involved—however and whenever you’re able. The road may be winding, but we’re still walking it—together.

As a representative of Winding Road leadership, I want to thank you for being part of this journey.

With gratitude and resolve,
Brian Handley, Board President

Let’s build the road ahead, together.
Robin Bousel
Artistic Director, Interim Executive Director, Board Member
Robin Bousel has been performing, producing, and championing the arts for over three decades. In June 2020, she returned to Tucson after fourteen years in Chicago, bringing with her a wealth of experience both on and off the stage. A dynamic artist and passionate advocate for creative community, Robin has worked with numerous small and mid-sized theater companies as a consultant, performer, director, and producer — always with a focus on growth, integrity, and storytelling that matters.

During her fourteen years in Chicago, Robin worked in consulting, development, and producing roles with several smaller innovative theater companies, including BYOT (Bring Your Own Theatre), a 24-hour theatre collective; Refuge Theatre Project, which brought musical theater into nontraditional, community-based venues to expand accessibility; and Cult Camp Productions, known for its bold, immersive programming. Her behind-the-scenes work supported everything from season development and grassroots fundraising to audience engagement and special events across the city’s thriving storefront theater scene.

As a performer, Robin appeared in a wide range of productions, with favorite credits including a two-year professional run of Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding as Donna Marsala, Roberta in Zanna Don’t!, Titania/Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Sister Hubert in Nunsense with Cult Camp. She also founded The FML Cabaret in 2018, an ongoing project using music, storytelling, and humor to explore post-traumatic growth and mental health, and produced a variety of cabarets, fundraisers, and themed performance nights in support of local artists and organizations.

Robin’s artistic roots run deep in Tucson, where she grew up performing in youth and community productions outside of school, including work with Bianco Theatre at The Gaslight, youth programs at Live Theatre Workshop and Tucson Parks & Recreation, and early roles with Arizona Opera Company and various small production companies.Since returning to Tucson, Robin has become a vibrant force in the local arts scene. Recent credits include Macbeth (Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre, Tucson MacFestival), The Wizard of Oz (Saguaro City Music Theatre), The Miss Firecracker Contest (Live Theatre Workshop), People, Places & Things (TAZ), and [title of show] (SAPAC).

In addition to her positions with Winding Road, Robin is also the Studio Arts Program Director and a Teaching Artist with Saguaro City Music Theatre; a Theatre Arts Educator at Kino School; and the Executive Administrative Assistant and Board Officer for Passion Project: Opera!, as well as continuing to perform here in the Tucson arts community.

Robin is known for her fierce commitment to collaboration, her humor and heart, and her deep belief in the transformative power of storytelling and the arts. Whether she’s on stage, behind the scenes, or in a leadership role, she works to create inclusive spaces where creativity thrives and artists are empowered to grow. She believes that theater can change lives — because it changed hers — and she is dedicated to making that magic available to others.
